Sidney Carrigan is a third year student completing her B.A. in Legal Studies along with minors in Disability Studies and Public Policy. Throughout her life, she has witnessed her mother struggle to comprehend the intricate legal system that governs her autistic brother’s life. Her early experiences with disability rights law and advocacy developed into a passion for alleviating the burdens of others, specifically by means of legal support. Through an internship with Harvard Law School’s Legal Services Center, she has experience working directly with disabled individuals on Social Security cases and providing Criminal Offender Record Information (CORI) sealing and expungement services. During her time at Cal, she has expanded the resources available for other pre-law students through the ASUC and provided legal assistance for housing-related matters in the Renters’ Legal Assistance. She also assists in the process of estate planning and probate litigation at the Law Office of Matthew Bruns. Sidney hopes to expand her knowledge of the legal system on a greater scale this summer and utilize her previous experience to give back to the members of her community.
