Michael L. Shenkman is a litigator at Bailey & Glasser, LLP, and an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Georgetown University Law Center. Until 2024, Michael was the Deputy Counselor to the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court of the United States. He initially joined the Counselor's Office as a Supreme Court Fellow in 2013-14. Previously, Michael was a Fellow and Lecturer-in-Law at Columbia Law School, where he designed the school’s federal government externship program in Washington, D.C., and taught the accompanying courses. He also has taught in political science at Yale College and at the University of California Washington Center. Michael has served in various capacities with the U.S. Department of Justice, including as Senior Counsel in the Office of Legal Policy, and in staff roles in the U.S. House and U.S. Senate. He was a law clerk to Judge Robert L. Wilkins of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit and to Judge Kenneth M. Karas of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York. Michael holds an A.B. in History from Harvard College and a J.D. from Columbia Law School.
