Arriving at UC Berkeley as a junior transfer student, Justin is a driven political science major focused on applying political theories of ethics towards developing just public policy. During his time at community college, Justin was an active member of multiple student government committees within the Associated Students of Pasadena City College. He applied his passion for political science towards creating a more inclusive student environment through assisting in the coordination of on-campus events, and modifying the college’s constitution and by-laws to better represent the needs of the student body.
As a first-generation college student, Justin plans to maximize his time at Berkeley by engaging in some of the vast opportunities offered through the university. During his first semester after transferring, Justin was admitted to the Social Sciences Research Pathways program as an undergraduate research mentee. Working directly with a political science PhD candidate, Justin is gaining both valuable research experience assisting his mentor, as well as insight into the common responsibilities of a PhD student. His participation in the 2024 cohort of the Cal-in-Sac Fellowship will complement this experience, further developing his research skills in preparation for pursuing a PhD in Political Theory.
Through the Cal-in-Sac Fellowship, Justin hopes to gain professional exposure within the field of public service. Although currently refining his career aspirations, Justin is highly considering a career in public policy recommendation at a think tank or consulting firm.
