Bio/CV:

Joy Ruppert (She/Her)

Joy Ruppert is a Chinese American transracial adoptee studying Political Science with minors in Ethnic Studies and Politics, Philosophy, and Law. Born in San Diego, Joy has been an advocate for educational opportunities and equal representation in both school and political systems. Growing up in predominantly white spaces, Joy understands what it feels like not to have a seat at the table or to believe that one can make a meaningful impact in their community. Motivated by this experience, Joy continues to advocate for ethnic studies programs and initiatives focused on recruiting and retaining low-income, first-generation, and students of color in higher education.

In addition to her passion for education advocacy, Joy is deeply committed to labor organizing and the power of unions. Raised by parents who are both teachers, she has long been inspired by their dedication to public service and their firsthand experiences with labor struggles in education. Joy believes that strong unions are crucial for ensuring fair working conditions and protecting the rights of marginalized workers. She seeks to bridge her interests in education, labor, and social justice to promote systemic change that empowers historically underrepresented communities.

Through her academic and advocacy work, Joy is committed to creating inclusive, equitable spaces where all individuals, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, can thrive and make meaningful contributions to society.
