Elena Hsieh (she/her)

Elena Hsieh is a third year from San Diego studying English and conservation & resource studies, with a minor in politics, philosophy, and law. Within these spheres of interest, she is most passionate about environmental litigation, animal welfare, and ecological literature. She is driven to pursue the legal field as a means to substantiate change for those from less privileged backgrounds, as she witnesses the disproportionate impacts of climate change across all life forms, especially people divided by wealth disparities. On campus, she is affiliated with various environmental, legal, and literary student organizations as she devotes time to writing for environmental publications or leading conservation work at the Gill Tract Farm. She serves as an editor for the Cal Legal Studies Journal and engages in communications work as an intern for the ASUC Pre-Law Committee, collaborating with the student government to establish a supportive environment for aspiring legal professionals. Additionally, Elena contributes to sustainable work on campus as the Housing and Dining Sustainability Garden Coordinator by tending and harvesting crops from campus gardens, contributing over 125 pounds annually of produce to local food pantries. These literary, governmental, and ecological engagements all culminate in the pursuit of entering the field of environmental law in the future. In her free time, she enjoys hiking, reading, running, scrapbooking, fitness, and photography.
