Amelia Monsour is a sophomore majoring in political science and sociology with a minor in public policy at the University of California, Berkeley. A proud graduate of K-12 public schools in Los Angeles, Amelia is passionate about addressing inequities in education and supporting California’s public school system. She is also passionate about addressing economic inequality and hopes to pursue a career in public service and law to advocate for economic justice and educational equity.
Throughout her time at UC Berkeley, Amelia has continued to develop her interest in public service and advocacy. As a Financial Aid Caseworker and Policy Coordinator at the Student Advocate’s Office, she helps students navigate financial aid problems with the university and advocates for financial aid policy reforms. Amelia is also the co-director of Cal ACLU’s Criminal Justice Reform Committee and is an Undergraduate Student Research Apprentice researching inequality in physical and mental health in the United States. Amelia also served as an Economic Empowerment Intern with the International Rescue Committee in Los Angeles, where she worked with refugees from around the world to connect them to financial resources and introduce them to the United States financial system through one-on-one financial coaching.
Amelia was a 2022 Democracy Camp in Berkeley Fellow. With the Cal in Sacramento program, Amelia hopes to continue exploring public policy and advocacy with a particular focus on economic and educational justice.
