2025 Boxer Lecture: Meeting the Moment: Reimagining Civic Engagement to Protect Democracy - A Conversation with Julie Chávez Rodriguez, ‘00
WHAT: The Boxer Lecture is a thoughtful conversation between Julie and Former U.S. Senator Barbara Boxer with a focus on women in public service leadership. As a Cal alum, the granddaughter of American labor leader, César Chávez and American labor activist Helen Fabela Chávez, and an accomplished political strategist in her own right, Julie can offer valuable insights into political coalition building and public engagement on key issues from the grassroots level to the highest office in our nation.
WHEN: Thursday, April 17, 2025 | 4:00pm -- 4:15pm (Doors Open at 3:50pm)
WHERE: This event will be held in person at UC Berkeley - Banatao Auditorium, 310 Sutardja Dai Hall, 2594 Hearst Ave, Berkeley, CA 94720. The event will be recorded and posted to the Institute of Governmental Studies YouTube page after the event.
DETAILS: At this critical juncture in the nation's political future, Julie will speak to the current state of politics in the country, ways in which organizing and civic engagement have changed over the years, and what individuals, especially students can do in this moment to get engaged and ensure their voices are heard.
The Barbara Boxer Lecture is an annual event, sponsored jointly by the Institute of Governmental Studies and The Bancroft Library, that focuses on women in leadership. It is co-sponsored by the Robert T. Matsui Center for Politics and Public Service.
