Renée Diop

Job title:
Class of 2026
Department:
2025 Schaeffer Fellowship
Bio/CV:

Renée Diop is an aspiring policymaker dedicated to advancing ethical AI, international development, and cultural exchange. Currently, she is a third-year pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science at the University of California, Berkeley. Her focus is in International Relations with a minor in Public Policy at the Goldman School of Public Policy.

Growing up in Silicon Valley, Diop is both excited by the potential of emerging technologies and mindful of the challenges they pose to society, particularly in deepening existing inequalities. Serving as Senator At-Large at the Associated Students of Ohlone College, Diop gained valuable insight into the complexities of representing a diverse student body of over 16,000 individuals. Her passion for diversity and inclusion led her to an internship at the U.S. Department of State, where she worked on both domestic and foreign policy issues while gaining hands-on experience in AI. During her time at the State Department, Diop conducted research on foreign misinformation and disinformation in Africa and helped beta-test the Department's in-house AI chatbot.

This summer, Diop aims to build on her experiences in public policy and technology to advocate for the safe, equitable, and ethical deployment of AI and emerging technologies, particularly in the context of a culturally diverse international community.
